just links again

the internet (ok, mostly npr) is giving me all of the feels today.

in regards to:

the ADA

(and related article, but I mean, duh)

dying 14-year-olds

(btw, 7/24/99 was Robina's memorial service)

chemo at end of life with huge inoperable tumors

    (speaking of.....)

transcending yourself by helping others with medical/special needs

    (Andrew WK brings it home)

That is all. I am done internetting today because every one of these seemed addressed directly to me. The end.

ok so this is actually important

I was going to wait a little bit until the celebration died down to say this, so instead I will just write it here before the words leave me and then throw it up on FB in a day or two.

I'm as jubilant as anyone that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states. It's been a long time coming, and I love love and celebrations of love, so bring it on!

But here is what we need to remember:

Just as electing a black president didn't mean that we were past racism in America, so too does this not end the fight. This victory is hugely significant - both as a symbol of equality and as a practical effect on the lives of millions who have waited and fought for this.

But the battle is far from over. LGBT Americans (and worldwide) are still bullied, harrassed, denied housing and jobs, assaulted, murdered, and commit suicide at alarming, unacceptable rates. In communities around the country, our LGBT friends struggle each day to live a normal, safe, and happy life due to the countless prejudices and injustices waged against them on a daily basis.

So let's embrace this victory, yes. Like I said, I do believe that it is symbolic of a turning tide in American sentiment about the LGBT community. But now that the marriage equality battle has finally been won, let's turn all of that energy toward other causes that will impact the daily lives of every LGBT American.  That battle is much more important - and for that, we have a long way to go.

summer break day 15

yesterday, 6/24:

i was less depressed about it being summer.

i went on a walk!

i gave medicine to my cat.

basically, i have a cat now and that makes everything better which is a surprise because i never liked cats

i sat around and played silly games on my phone (my phone has 3 versions of knockoff candy crush)

and i cuddled with my cat

and went to counseling

and bought beer because i discovered that you can get growlers of deschutes fresh squeezed at busy day

so i did that and then drank it on the porch with a friend

i made a sourdough starter over the past 5 days and today i made sourdough buns

and black bean burgers and cameron brought over chicken and we grilled and sat on the back porch and watched the lightning bugs and talked about our lives

so, that was pretty neat. i guess it was a good day of summer break

summer break day 14

things i did yesterday. 6/23/15

hiked up to radar hill and back
met with mr. joshua tree about my yard
got overwhelmed about my yard
got overwhelmed about how hot my house was
tried to make a plan
spent about 4 hours laying around doing nothing
mailed a birthday card to my grandma
made a sticker chart for summer break
ate chocolate and a bunch of leftovers
and was just hot and sticky and gross feeling
but then i went to strouds and hiked again and got caught in the rain on purpose
i was finally cooled off for the first time all day and my clothes were soaked
then i went to cameron's to take a shower
i felt like a whole human being for the first time all day
so i sat in his cool basement apartment and did crosswords
then i talked to dave for a while
then i left and went to walmart because i realized that i could buy more fans
and fans come in purple now
so i bought a purple fan at walmart
and bright red hair dye at the import house
and i almost went for a drink but casa was closed and when i walked into tony's i just wanted to walk back out
so then , um
i plugged in my fan and sat outside and then i read a book and called cameron and went inside and played with my new cat and then i found silly games on my phone so i played those and then i went back outside and watched lightning bugs and talked to sara cole because the foster care people called to see if i would want an emergency placement and it was really hard to tell them no but i told them no
then i just went to cameron's and we laid on the couch and watched baseball and the a's won! and then i went to sleep.

summer break is so hard for me
but i guess it was a good day
